The 144th Diocesan Convention

Planning Ahead for November's Diocesan Convention
By The Rev. Simon Foster
Rector, St. John's of Lattingtown
Chair of Committee on Dispatch of Business

Convention logoIn recent years the Committee on Dispatch of Business has worked together with our Bishop on both a theme and logo to focus our attention and attentiveness. We have had different themes, but for this year it was felt that we should adopt last year's theme of "many hands make one Dominion in the Sea" with its many and diverse hands stretching across Long Island.

We are many and with much diversity of course but we are fundamentally and essentially one and Jesus calls us as does our Bishop "to be one … so that the world may believe" (John 17) and to heed the call of St. Francis to build the Church.

This theme of oneness is our baptismal gift and both vital and crucial for our own diocese and all churches and between the different faith communities and traditions as we journey on the pilgrim way. To this end the theme and logo chosen for our convention this year is to be oneness expressed in our unity in "One God, One Dominion, One Mission and One Diocese." We will gather with our bishop and with each other and invited guests to celebrate that oneness though our worship, fellowship, and business done.

May we all pray that we will play our part in participating in God's oneness and furthering it in our life together and at our diocesan convention.
