FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: NOMINATIONS FOR LONG ISLAND’S NEXT BISHOP COADJUTOR NOW OPEN Port Washington, NY-- August 20, 2008 -- Nominations are now open to call Long Island’s next bishop coadjutor, the Search/Nominating Committee announced. The Search/Nominating Committee will accept nominations until September 30 mailed to P.O. Box 712, Port Washington, NY 11050. Forms may be found on the committee’s web site at http://www.bishopforlongisland.org/Documents/DiocesanProfile_Nomination.pdf, and a copy of the recently completed diocesan profile may also be downloaded at http://www.bishopforlongisland.org/Documents/DiocesanProfile.pdf. Clergy and laity are invited to nominate individuals from either within or without the diocese. Invitations to nominate candidates are also being sent to all active bishops, deans of seminaries and diocesan deployment officers. Bishop Orris G. Walker Jr., 65, called for a coadjutor during the Diocese's annual convention in November 2007. Walker has served as Long Island's seventh Diocesan bishop since January 1991; he was elected Coadjutor in 1988.
