| NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS By The Rev. Michael Sniffen The Rev. Dr. Stephen Need and his wife Jill facilitated a Lenten Bible study on the importance of context in Biblical studies and on doing Biblical criticism. He spoke about the terrain and landscape of the Holy Land as a lens through which the stories of the Bible can be experienced in greater depth. Using the story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness from the Gospel of Mark, Dr. Need spoke about what sort of temptations and confrontations Jesus may have encountered in the desert and how those might relate to our own wilderness experiences in the season of Lent. Dr. Need's February 24th Bible study is available in audio form on St. John's Parish website. A renowned scholar and author of several books, this was his third visit to St. John's.
