| EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO HAITI EARTHQUAKE DISASTER My Brothers and Sisters, On Friday, January 15th at 7:30 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Incarnation, the Diocese will celebrate a Eucharist in support of our brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Haiti and in support of our Haitian clergy and church members here in the Diocese of Long Island. The Diocese of Long Island has had a special relationship with the Diocese of Haiti since the days of Bishop Alfred Voegeli. Most recently many of you participated in the instrument drive to supply musical instruments to the world renowned symphony orchestra of the Holy Trinity School, supported the construction of the College St. Pierre, the seminary of the diocese and our gifts made possible the development of a water bottling operation that was providing support for the seminary. Canon Oge Beauvoir, the Principal of the Seminary, is a missionary supported in part by the Diocese. Now all must be rebuilt. The Cathedral, Holy Trinity School, the Bishop’s House, many churches, the College St. Pierre, and the fresh water pump have all been destroyed. Many, many lives have been lost and families have been shattered. Our website has a Pastoral Letter from the Province II Bishops. On Friday, we will offer prayers for the departed and the living and prayers for the indomitable spirit of the Haitian people. And we will begin the process of lifting a special collection for the Diocese of Haiti. For the next two Sundays, I am asking that a second collection be taken in each of our parochial units for the Diocese of Haiti. Please make your checks payable to Diocese of Long Island with a notation marked for Haiti/ERD. Please join us on Friday for this special offering of the Holy Eucharist.
