Your Search Committee has been charged with selecting a slate of candidates who will stand for election as the Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of Long Island. To accomplish this task, we must develop a representative Diocesan profile that reflects the prayers, dreams and ideas of the whole membership of our Diocese. Accordingly, we are scheduling Regional Listening Events in each Archdeaconry during April and asking every parish to hold its own local Listening Event by mid-May.
A Listening Event is a 90-minute meeting, where people are encouraged to participate and provide input into the bishop search process. People will be asked to fill out a survey questionnaire and compare and share their views in small groups. The groups will brainstorm, discuss, and write down their thoughts about the future ministries and mission of our Diocese, their highest dreams of what is possible for our Diocese, and the leadership qualities they value.
Before holding its own local Listening Event, each parish is asked to send one or more lay representatives to its Archdeaconry’s Regional Listening Event. Suggested parish representatives include wardens, convention delegates/alternates, and other lay leaders. Members of the Search Committee will conduct the Regional Listening Event and facilitate small group discussions. Lay attendees will experience first-hand what goes on at a Listening Event and be trained how to conduct the event at their parish. Your Search/ Nominating Committee has scheduled the following Regional Listening Events for the laity and a separate Listening Event for clergy. Other events will be scheduled for certain Diocesan-wide organizations.
