Joint Oversight Committee for Calling a Bishop Coadjutor
Dec. 28, 2007 Joint Oversight Committee News

The Joint Oversight Committee held its first meeting on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Mercer School Of Theology in Garden City.

At this meeting the officers of the JOC were elected as follows:

The Rev. Peter Casparian, Chair
Donna Jones, Vice Chair
The Very Rev. Dr. Glenworth D. Miles, Communication Coordinator
The Rev. Lynn A. Collins, Webpage Developer
June Gerbracht, Site Coordinator
Don Derrick, Finance Manager
Valarie Crosdale, Resident Medical Facilitator

The Rev. Dominic Cianella was elected chaplain of the group.

The JOC acting on the recommendations of Bishop Matthew's office reviewed a list of four consultants any of whom would be able to be a consultant in the search process.

The list of consultants was: The Rev. William M. King from the diocese of Alanama, The Rev. Canon David L. Seger from South Dakota, The Rev. Thomas Conrad Selnick from the diocese of Ohio and The Rev. Canon Richard H. Callaway from the diocese of Georgia.

After prayerful discernment, the group decided to contract the services of The Rev. Thomas Conrad Selnick.

The JOC having elected Don Derrick as JOC Finance Manager, empowered him to pursue contact with Louise Baietto in order to establish the protocols for accessing the budget designated for the search/nomination/transition process for the election.

To date all the Archdeaconries except Brooklyn and Suffolk have held their elections to provide the names of the clergy and lay elected to the Leadership Pool.

Brooklyn's elections are scheduled for Saturday, January 5, 2008 and Suffolk's on Wednesday, January 5, 2008.

The JOC is still looking for 8 At-Large Members comprised of four (4) clergy and four (4) laity. Persons interested in comprising this group should provide a photograph and a short bio of their church affiliation and activities to the JOC as soon as possible.

The following dates were decided on at the December meeting:

January 12, 2008: JOC Meeting at Mercer;
January 19, 2008: Meeting with Leadership Pool at Mercer from 10-3 PM;
January 19, 2008: JOC meeting at Mercer;
January 25-26 2008: Leadership Pool/Members At Large retreat.
Camp DeWolfe is being pursued as a possible venue.
February 13, 2008: The Bishops & Staff retreat.

The next meeting of the JOC is scheduled for January 12 at the Mercer School of Theology.

Please continue to pray for the committee, the process and our bishop and his family at this time.

Pax Vobiscum!

Respectfully submitted,
The Very Rev. Dr. Glenworth D. Miles+
