Joint Oversight Committee for Calling a Bishop Coadjutor
News from the Interim Joint Oversight Committee (IJOC)

At the two day 141st Convention of the Diocese of Long Island held on Friday, November 9–10, the Interim Joint Oversight Committee (IJOC) that has been meeting throughout the past two months in anticipation of the call for the election of a Bishop Coadjutor presented its policies and procedures empowering the process for the election of a Bishop Coadjutor.

The presentation in the form of a power point was well received by the convention and did not precipitate much discussion. The IJOC having done its work, a Joint Oversight Committee (JOC) will thus be established for the election of a Bishop Coadjutor made up of 4 members (2 clergy/2 lay) each from the Standing Committee and the Diocesan Council as newly comprised following the convention.

Following the establishment of the Joint Oversight Committee (JOC), a Leadership Pool of 24 (equal parts clerical and lay) will serve as the source of membership from which the JOC will appoint both a Search/Nomination Committee (made up of 18 members) and a Transition Committee (made up of 6 members). The JOC will also be responsible for appointing the chairs of each committee.

This is a time for us to “bathe” the diocese in our prayers as we discern and finally select our next Bishop. Pax et Bonum!

Respectfully submitted,

The Very Rev. Dr. Glenworth D. Miles+

Spokesperson for the Interim Joint Oversight Committee
