"God Speed the Plow"

After the plow blessing on Plow Sunday at St. Ann's, Bridgehampton

The rural custom of blessing the plow as a symbol of the beginning of the agricultural year is an old one, and in the 19th century the second Sunday in January was given the name of "Plow Sunday."

At St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Bridgehampton, the children of the Sunday School together with the Rector, Father Tim Lewis, and Douglas De Groot, the owner of an old hand plow, continued the tradition this winter.
