NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
AUG 30 - The Episcopal Health Services Board announced transition steps today to return management to an EHS in-house leadership team.

Statement by The Right Reverend Lawrence Provenzano,

Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island,

regarding future management of Episcopal Health Services

and Kurron management services

August 30, 2010

·     The Episcopal Health Services Board of Managers, which I chair, announced important steps today that will eventually return day-to-day management of our healthcare system to an in-house leadership team.

·     The board has made the decision to conclude our long-standing management agreement with Kurron Shares of America.  That is a positive signal of our system’s financial stability and reflects a deep desire by our Board of Managers to resume more direct responsibility for our system’s relationship with our nurses and physicians and for the patient care we provide.

·     We are deeply grateful for Kurron’s service to our healthcare system over the years. Their leadership played a key role in assisting our system through the bankruptcy process ending in 2001 and helped us achieve the financial stability our healthcare system enjoys today.

·     There will be no immediate changes at the hospital or at our nursing homes as a result of today’s announcement. The executive committee of the Board of Managers voted late last week to not renew our contract with Kurron, activating a transition period of several months. During this transition, the Board will be assisted by Pitts Management Associates, Inc., one of the nation’s leading healthcare strategic consulting firms.

·     I believe this decision is an encouraging step by our Board, a sign of our confidence in the future of our healthcare system, as well as a signal of the Diocese’s strong commitment to its mission of providing quality healthcare to our communities.

·     I will be reaching out to our caregivers and physicians over the coming many weeks to discuss these steps as we plan our move forward in service together.
