Trinity, Northport, Names Michele Schmitt as Tiny Tots Director

Trinity Episcopal Church in Northport has named Michele Schmitt as director of Tiny Tots Community Play School after she spent a successful year as interim director.

"Michele has nurtured an atmosphere of warmth and trust at Tiny Tots,” Barbara Wasilausky, Trinity’s senior warden, said. “She has organized several successful fundraisers this year, including the popular ‘Taste of Northport’ last month. We are pleased to name her director of Tiny Tots."

Schmitt began as an assistant teacher at Tiny Tots when the school opened in September 2001. She later spent four years as a lead teacher and then two years as the school’s administrative assistant, replacing the previous administrative assistant, who had retired.

She became the school’s interim director upon the retirement of the founding director, Ely Roll, in June 2008.

Schmitt has an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Suffolk County Community College; an associate’s degree in accounting, also from Suffolk County Community College; and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Long Island University.

Tiny Tots, housed in Trinity’s Weaver Church School Building, is a non-sectarian play school for children ages 14 to 33 months. Forty-five children attended Tiny Tots -- which offers educational activities, including music and French instruction -- this past school year. The school also offers a six-week summer camp for children ages 24-43 months.
