Jan. 26 and Feb. 9, 2008, Joint Oversight Committee News

The Search/Nominating Committee and The Transition Committee and their chairpersons have been elected and named.

Since my last communication, the Joint Oversight Committee (JOC) met on Saturday, January 19th, 25th and 26th.

The January 19th meeting was held at the Mercer School of Theology from 10:00AM - 3:00PM with the 16 persons elected by the 4 archdeaconries (2 clergy and 2 lay), along with 16 persons of a pool of "at large" nominees.

The pool of sixteen persons (dubbed the "sweet sixteen!"), met with the JOC during the early part of the day on January 19th to get a sense of the numerous skills and experiences that each individual brings to the table.

After lunch, a similar meeting was held with the pool of "at large" nominees, with the 16 (sweet sixteen) elected as observers.

At the end of the day, the JOC met behind closed doors to prayerfully discern and select from the "at large" group of nominees 8 individuals who would be placed in a larger pool of finalists in a pool for either the Search/Nomination or Transition Committees.

The following were selected as the 8 finalist for the larger pool:

The Rev. Hickman Alexander, Joseph Ang, Jae Chung, Willow Fodor, The Rev. Christopher Hofer, Frederick Miller, The Rev. Shawn Williams and The Rev. Debra Low-Skinner.

The January 25-26th meeting was an overnight retreat held at Camp DeWolfe.

At this meeting the JOC elected and formed both the Search/Nomination and Transition Committees, along with their Chairs and Co-Chairs.

The following persons are now officially the Search/Nomination Committee of the diocese:

The Rev. Hickman Alexander, Joseph Ang, Joan Asselin, The Rev. Deacon Betty Belasco, Jae Chung, Lindsey Cotter, Latonia Early-Hublebank, Rita Fray, The Rev. Joseph Jerome, The Rev. Donovan Leys, The Rev. Debra Low-Skinner, Fred Miller, Kennedy Mills, Susan Morrison, The Rev. Robert Picken, The Rev. Richard Simpson, Brian Quinn and The Rev. Shawn Williams.

At a JOC meeting on February 9th, the Rev. Francisco M. Rodriguez-Padron was added to the search/nomination committee.

This committee will be Chaired by Fred Miller with the Rev. Richard Simpson and the Rev. Donovan Leys as Vice Chairs.

The following were elected as members of the Transition Committee:

The Rev. Eddie Alleyne, The Rev. Deacon Lorraine Cusick, Willow Fodor, The Rev. Christopher Hofer, The Rev. Christina Van Liew and Fritz Weinrich.

This committee will be Chaired by the Rev. Eddie Alleyne.

The day ended with a moving service of commissioning held in St. Luke's Chapel for all those elected.

Now that these two committees are officially in place, the real search process begins, and the JOC will, as part of its ongoing responsibility, be simply the committee overseeing the process to completion.

All future communication will now come directly from the Communications Sub-Committee of the Search/Nomination Committee.

On behalf of the Chair of the JOC Committee and all its members, we extend our thanks to all those who have participated in the process thus far.

We also congratulate those who have been elected to both committees, and continue to pray God's blessings upon them as they embark on the task ahead.

Pax vobiscum.

Respectfully submitted,
The Very Rev. Dr. Glenworth D. Miles+
Communications Officer of the Joint Oversight Committee
