Repentance, Faith, Holiness, and Love: An Advent Study.
The question of Advent is “Will there be room?” Can we sweep out the clutter of our lives and leave a space into which God might become reality?
In this Advent study, we will explore various characters in the biblical story, and even a few others out of the annals of history, to think through how to “prepare him room” during Advent. We will structure their stories around four themes, for our four weeks. These themes are repentance, faith, holiness, and love. John Wesley once said that repentance is the porch, faith the door, and holiness the interior of the house. We would add that the house itself – porch, door, and all – is love. Singers croon, “I’ll be home for Christmas.” God calls us home during Advent; God invites us into a new or renewed relationship of love. As Dante said, it is “the love that moves the stars” that drawn us, and it is the love that came down at Christmas that is our destiny, our home.
Please join us Thursday evenings November 29, December 6, 13, 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Christian Formation Room at Cathedral House. We will begin with warm beverages, soup and bread.
November 29 – Repentance
December 6 – Faith
December 13 – Holiness
December 20 – Love
“God so loved the world that he gave his only son.” (John 3:16)
Advent reminds us of our true love.
“An Evening With A Touch of Jazz”
On Saturday November 3rd the sound of jazz music filled the Undercroft at the Cathedral. The Journey to Adulthood (J2A) Youth Group sponsored this evening in an effort to raise funds to help offset their planned Mission Trip to Mission On the Bay, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi during Spring Break 2008.
The evening was a tremendous success not only financially but in its efforts towards building a sense of community among the youth. A special thank you is extended to James Ludwig and Jerry McDonald who provided light jazz as background music for the dinner portion of the evening. An additional highlight of the evening was the performance of a 9 piece jazz band consisting of 9 young men who attend Bay Shore High School. Jason Lombardo, a youth from the Cathedral, who plays with this band, organized this portion of the evening to everyone’s delight. We say thank you to Jason and his friends and we look forward to their return.
Martin Adams, Anna Bricken, Elizabeth Cavanaugh, Brittany Dara, Ryan DeMarco, Jerry D’Aversa, Jessica Lombardo, Robbie LeSueur, Luna Mishoe, Emma Siegel, and Emily Werner, the members of the J2A Youth Group, wish to thank you for your financial support, and encouragement of their event.
