Bishop Lawrence Provenzano has shared with the board of the Mercer School of Theology a vision for the future of the Mercer School, and he has appointed the Very Reverend Dr. David B. Lowry, rector of Christ Church, Manhasset, to serve as interim dean starting September 1, succeeding Bishop Johncy Itty who has been interim dean for the past 18 months.

Dr. Lowry is also dean of the North Nassau Deanery and has served as the Director of the Desmond Tutu Education Center at the General Theological Seminary in New York City for the past year.
He previously served in the Diocese of Long Island as Canon Pastor at the Cathedral of the Incarnation and Associate Professor of New Testament at the Mercer School.
Father Lowry has a doctorate in early modern English history, with recent additional academic work in the area of corporate ethics.
He has been dean of Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans and for 14 years was a vice president of the Freeport-McMoRan companies.
