Death of the Rev. Canon Ernest Katahweire

 
Canon Katahweire

Bishop Provenzano requests the prayers of the diocese for the Rev. Canon Ernest Katahweire, whose death from an apparent heart attack was reported on July 20, 2010.

There will be events at The Church of Epiphany and Saint Simon and also at Saint Augustine's, in recognition of the life of the Reverend Canon Ernest Katahweire.
 
A Ugandan Presentation will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010, followed by a Vigil Service at The Church of Epiphany and Saint Simon, 2910 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY.
 
A repast in the Sherman Room will follow the Vigil Service.

The Office of the Bishop announces that the scheduled "times" of the Ugandan Presentation and Vigil for Canon Katahweire scheduled for this Sunday at The Church of Epiphany and Saint Simon have been changed.
 
This revised schedule will allow those who wish to also attend the St. Paul's-in-the-Village, Flatbush, retirement event for Canon Peter Golden to do so.
 
Here are the new times for the events at The Church of Epiphany and Saint Simon:
 
Sunday, July 25, 2010
 
"Ugandan Presentation"
at 6:30 p.m.
 
followed by a
"Vigil Service"
at 7:30 p.m.


And on Monday, July 26 ...
 
The Bishop will celebrate and preach
at a Requiem Eucharist
on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10 a.m.
at Saint Augustine’s Episcopal Church,
4301 Avenue D, Brooklyn, NY.

The bishop will be making a pastoral visit to the parish on Sunday, July 25.

Although Canon Katahwerie was not canonically resident in the Diocese of Long Island, he served interim tenures at Trinity-St. John in Hewlett, Grace Church in Jamaica and as priest-in-charge of Epiphany and St. Simon in Brooklyn. 

He also served at St. Mark’s in West Orange, New Jersey, St. Edmund’s in the Bronx and was an associate priest at St. Bartholomew’s in New York City while studying at the General Theological Seminary.

In his native Uganda, where he was priested 35 years ago, he was the Head of the Religious Department at Makerere University and Head of the Pastoral Theological Department at Bishop Tucker Theological College.

In 1992 he was made a Canon of St. James’ Cathedral, Ankole.
