On June 5th the sun was shining and music filled Grace Church, Massapequa, when more than 250 parishioners, clergy, friends and neighbors gathered for the Institution of the Rev. Joshua D. Walters as the 11th Rector of the parish.
Guided by the Rev. Rob Picken, the service was a reflection of the important role Fr. Walters has as the spiritual leader and Rector of Grace Church and Day School. Assisting in the service was the Rev. Edward S. Prevost, Rector of Christ Church, Winnetka, Illinois, Fr. Josh's friend and mentor. With the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Episcopal Bishop of Long Island presiding, prayers were offered and gifts and symbols of the ministry were given to Fr, Josh by members of the Church, clergy and representatives of the Day School. The Institution segment of the service ended with Bishop Provenzano saying, "Greet Your New Rector and His Family."
All gathered under a tent on the school lawn to celebrate this important event. Food and refreshment were abundant and all gave thanks for the beginning of the newest chapter in the life of the parish.
