Celebrating a Musical Anniversary for the Diocese

Last year, there was a great energy that came together from all over the diocese, as singers brought their talents together for the consecration of our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Provenzano.

In the time since, many of those singers have asked if another such event could be
held. In addition, there were people who were unable to be included in that choir, due to the seating limitations of the Tilles Center.

We are pleased to announce that a Diocesan Choir is being formed to observe the anniversary of the consecration Choir, and to allow an opportunity for those who could not be included a year ago. This year, we will be singing a service of Evensong in the Cathedral of the Incarnation,

Ann Tillman
Garden City, at 4:00 pm to close the diocese’s Mission Fair on September 25. The choir will again be conducted by Gregory Eaton of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity, Brooklyn, and he will be assisted by the Rev. Ann Tillman of Caroline Church, Setauket.

At present, plans call for the choir to sing a festival anthem. In addition, we will be looking at
settings of the canticles, and methods of singing the psalms which might be found useful back in our parishes. In order to help cover the costs of music and other materials, we are asking each singer to contribute $25, which will be collected at our first rehearsal.

Rehearsals will be on the weekends of August 27/28; September 10/11, September 17/18, and on the afternoon of September 25. We need to hear from individual singers to find out whether Friday evenings or Saturday mornings will be best for the majority of the choir.

In order to join the choir, please send the following information:

Name, Address, E-mail, Telephone, Voice Part, Parish. Also indicate your availability for either/both Friday evening and/or Saturday morning on the dates indicated above.

IMPORTANT DEADLINE:
Submit your
initial e-mails about joining no later than Friday, August 6.

Please send your information individually to: diochoir.longisland@gmail.com

Please NOTE: We cannot accept group e-mails; please send a separate message for each person
who wishes to sing. In the case of persons without e-mail, please have a friend or fellow parishioner send an individual e-mail, and we will contact you to confirm the best method of communication.

We hope to have many of our singers from throughout the Diocese of Long Island join in this celebration of the mission and ministry of the diocese, and to commemorate the anniversary of our successful choir from 2009!
